The Rock Island school board votes to tear down Audubon school Ending a three year wait to see if a buyer would take the property. Out of four options, the board chose demolition over shutting off the heat, fixing the school boiler, or continuing to hope a buyer would come forward. Fareway was close to a deal to buy the school for $475,000. The deal fell through over opposition from neighbors. The demolition will cost the district $224,000. It will continue trying to sell the vacant land once Audubon comes down.
