The State Patrol worked with OnStar to slow and bring the vehicle to a stop near Brule. As troopers approached the vehicle they heard a single gunshot. Law enforcement report that Rangel shot himself. Troopers provided medical care at the scene and Rangel was airlifted to a hospital in Scottsbluff where he later died.
