Davenport Man Pled Guilty To Tampering with Records

DES MOINES, Iowa - Terrence Edwards, age 52, of Davenport, Iowa, recently pled guilty to four counts of Tampering with Records following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime. We all pay for insurance fraud in the form of higher insurance costs,” Iowa Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen said. “I appreciate the hard work of our fraud bureau, the Davenport Police Department and the Scott County Attorney’s Office to prosecute this case so Mr. Edwards was held accountable for his actions.”

On November 21, 2019, Edwards was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and was ordered to pay restitution, fines, and civil penalties in the amount of $640.

The guilty plea by Edwards stems from an investigation which began in February 2018. The investigation concluded Edwards lied about the existence of a pre-existing medical condition on an application for medical insurance. Edwards also submitted false statements to multiple insurance companies when submitting an application for auto insurance. Edwards also misrepresented pre-existing collision damage to his vehicle on a separate auto insurance claim.
